Natalie Hayes Schmook ’05 ’06MBA knows firsthand the lasting value of a Crummer education—and the power of staying connected long after graduation. A business owner, wealth management professional, and dedicated Rollins alumna, Schmook now serves as President of the Crummer Alumni Advisory Board, where she is helping shape the future of alumni engagement and community.
In this interview, Schmook reflects on what drew her to Crummer, how her MBA has influenced her career, and what alumni can expect in an exciting year ahead!
What originally inspired you to pursue your MBA at Crummer, and how has that decision shaped your career path?
I knew in high school I wanted to go into business- I wanted to be the CEO of the Coca Cola company or something. I figured the best time to go would be directly from undergrad so I exclusively looked at 3-2 programs. I’m so thankful I did because with the role I would up in I would not have gone back for my degree but it’s had a long term invaluable impact on my career and as a now-business owner.
What does the Crummer community mean to you personally?
I’ve tried to stay involved with Crummer since I graduated. I meet so many interesting people and learn so much from my connections and interactions there. The school is moving in a really cool direction and I’m excited about opportunities to make the alumni community even more valuable to alumni. Plus Winter Park isn’t a terrible place to visit!
What are the benefits of moving to a “One Rollins” community?
I’m biased on this because I went to Rollins for undergrad as well but the reason I went to Rollins and not an all-business school was that I specifically wanted a liberal arts education which was enormously helpful in wealth management as I work with people from all kinds of backgrounds and need to be well versed in history, politics, science, art and culture. I think moving Crummer and Rollins closer gives everyone the opportunity to have a better rounded education to help not just with business but with life.
What can Crummer Alumni look forward to in the upcoming year?
SO MUCH! I’m so excited about what we have going on- be on the lookout for more regional events than we’ve had in years, virtual professional education and networking opportunities.
Finally, what’s something that people might be surprised to learn about you?
I am a serious introvert. One-on-one I am fine, but large gatherings absolutely terrify me! I’m getting better at them as I get older though.
