Yasmin Mesbah Awarded Crummers Highest Student Leadership Honor

WINTER PARK, FL (April 17, 2018) – The Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College today announced that MBA student Yasmin Mesbah has been named this year's SunTrust Distinguished Leader of Merit, the School’s highest leadership honor. Created to recognize students who show exceptional leadership development and commitment, the award is given each year to a second-year student in Crummer’s Early Advantage MBA program, the number-one ranked program in the nation for leadership development by HR.com’s LEAD Awards.

Created in partnership with SunTrust Bank, the Distinguished Leader of Merit honor is given each year to a student who is active in programming within the Crummer Center for Leadership Development and who exemplifies and practices ethical, responsible and thoughtful leadership both at school and in the community.

“Crummer is known for its commitment to producing global, responsible and innovative business leaders,” said Dean Deborah Crown. “Yasmin Mesbah, along with the other nominees, exemplifies not only our focus on leadership education but also our goal of fostering the type of leadership that extends beyond the classroom to directly impact organizations and communities.”

Mesbah was selected as a project leader for her Integrated Capstone Experience, skillfully leading a team of six of her peers to commercialize NASA’s patented wound healing technology. She formed ActivCure, an LLC, to manufacture and market a bandage utilizing technology and currently serves as its chief executive officer. In addition to Yasmin, Crummer students Amy C. Weschler and Allie Wilkerson were named SunTrust Leaders of Merit.

“To distinguish themselves at Crummer, a school known for its ability to produce effective leaders, is an extraordinary testament to the abilities of Yasmin, Amy and Allie,” said Selina Vik, Assistant Director for the Crummer Center for Leadership Development. “We are pleased to be able to recognize their accomplishments alongside our partner, SunTrust Bank.”

Scott Cathcart, President and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Florida, presented Yasmin with the award. Yasmin will be recognized again for her achievement at the Crummer commencement ceremony on May 5, 2018.

The criteria for the award are behavioral assessments, participating in leadership programs and coaching, course completion in leadership, and community service. Students who meet the award requirements develop a leadership portfolio that includes a detailed development plan and future leadership objectives, written reflections of demonstrated leadership, references, and a resume. Entrants are judged by a panel of local Orlando business leaders who serve on the Leadership Center’s Business Advisory Board.

This year’s selection panel included Rhonda Cox, Sr. Human Resources Business Partner, SunTrust Bank, Inc.; Patty Cunnard, North Highland and 2017 SunTrust Distinguished Leader of Merit; Barbara Hartley, Executive Director at the Downtown Orlando Arts District; Theresa A. Williams, Private Wealth Advisor, Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management; and Greg Turkanik, Executive in Residence, Crummer Graduate School of Business and 2006 SunTrust Distinguished Leader of Merit.
