History
Leader in Education
Founded in 1885, Rollins College has always been a community of
scholars, an engine for economic development, and a place where
people seek greater understanding and knowledge. Rollins College
is well known as a leader in liberal arts education and as a place
that develops innovative thinking, standards of excellence, and
a spirit of community. Because of its commitment to these values,
Rollins College took the forward thinking step of creating a Business
School in 1957 to help serve the needs of a growing central Florida
business community.
Crummer History
In 1964, Roy E. Crummer, then a resident of Winter Park, gave Rollins
College an endowment for the establishment of the Roy Edwin Crummer
School of Finance and Business Administration. The academic program
was later revised to include a five year BA/MBA program, and the
part-time program was renamed as a Master of Commercial Science
(MCS). In 1970, it was again renamed as a Master of Science in Management
(MSM).
In 1980, the Crummer School was changed to the
status of a graduate school exclusively which would act as a separate
yet integral part of the Rollins College community. This allowed
the Crummer School to operate as a separate professional school
with its own faculty, and the curriculum became a standard MBA for
both full-time and part-time students. In 1985, the Crummer School
became the 215th MBA program in the nation to be accredited by the
American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. It is one of
only 42 schools accredited at the graduate level only.
The
Founder
During the ceremony to commemorate the opening of Crummer
Hall, Mr. Roy
E. Crummer, Jr. offered these words, “In the free economic
system such as we enjoy in this country, the inescapable difficulties
must be met by independent leaders. We must not leave the solution
of our economic problems up to government officials. I look to this
school to train business leaders with a sense of rightness, a sense
of responsibility and with the preparation necessary to meet and
solve problems.”
Deans
of the Crummer School
Since its inception, the Crummer School has had five Deans
who have led the school to increasing prominence and expanded both
the reach of the school and the diversity of its programs and students.
Each Dean came from a distinguished career in both the business
world and academia and had a unique vision that has left its mark
on the School. To read further about each Dean, please click on

A. Moses (1994-2000), Craig
M. McAllaster (2000-present).
The Student Experience
The educational philosophy of the Crummer School is based on the
concept of “shared learning,” the idea that education
is a partnership among active participants in the learning process.
The educational experience offered by the Crummer School is based
on experiential learning and innovation. Because the Crummer School
has been established as part of Rollins College, students’
training is intended to develop efficient business leaders with
depth, drive, imagination, creativity and the character that our
society most requires.
A Lifetime Experience
The Crummer School provides an environment where students learn
analytical and critical thinking, develop an appreciation of cultures
and people, gain an understanding of business methods and explore
free market solutions to the challenges facing humankind. Students,
young and old alike, share in the excitement of a vibrant, dynamic,
and beautiful campus, building on the skills and talents that will
serve them for a lifetime.
